Every time I learn of a new “diet” I jump into it with both feet, giving it 100% of my efforts. I start with getting all the “things” (like with the Keto diet, I threw out all the carbs) so I can follow the plan as it is taught. Then, after a week or two, I find myself so frustrated not seeing the scale budge, or if I eat something “not on the diet” I end up gaining weight.

Can you relate? Are you struggling with the same feelings of discouragement and self-doubt? I found hope my friends!! In this post, I wanted to take you through my journey of breaking free from that relentless cycle and discovering a path to lasting success. I want to tell you about how the ongoing battle with weight loss challenges—like the discouragement of the scale not moving, the discomfort of clothes that don't fit, and the constant cravings—led me to unhealthy choices and emotional strain. I want to share my personal rollercoaster ride through countless weight loss fads, extreme diets, and the emotional toll they took on me. I also want to tell you about how Semaglutide (aka Ozempic) has changed my life. I finally broke free, embraced a plant-based diet, and overhauled my lifestyle for healthier living.

I was so over the “diet world”. I kept experiencing discouragement and had a profound decrease in motivation. i felt like an ongoing battle against myself was never-ending. Each failed attempt at a diet or weight loss plan chipped away at my self-confidence, leaving me feeling disheartened and ready to throw in the towel. Daily life became a constant reminder of my struggles, whether it’s the frustration of seeing the scale not budge, the discomfort of fitting into clothes, or the relentless cravings that make healthy choices feel like an uphill struggle. Each day that passes without significant change can intensify feelings of helplessness, these intense feelings made it increasingly difficult to stay committed to my health goals.

The emotional distress from ongoing frustration and the loss of motivation often leads to a cycle of emotional eating or abandoning my weight loss program altogether. The constant stress of not seeing results seeped into other aspects of my life, affecting relationships, work, and personal happiness. I didn’t even realize how far-reaching the emotional toll was taking on me and the extent to which it was affecting me. It’s a painful experience to feel as though your efforts are futile, and this distress can overshadow the positive steps you’ve taken, leading to further discouragement and a diminished drive to persist.

I became so desperate to feel healthy, to lose weight, and to not have the physical pain I was in that I was considering bariatric surgery. When I had heard about and read all the success people were having with taking Semaglutide or Tirzepatide, I knew I needed to give this approach a chance before I did something as drastic as bariatric surgery. This decision proved to be transformative. For the first time, I experienced a shift that allowed me to focus on what really mattered—nutrition and overall health—without the cloud of frustration and failure that had previously overwhelmed me. Then there’s the frustration of feeling like what I was doing isn’t working anymore. All the effort with diets, workouts, and healthy choices, felt like I was hitting a wall. This constant struggle made me feel like I was stuck and that nothing was ever going to change. I began thinking that i was “doomed” to never know what it was like to feel strong, to have my body not wear out as easily, not be able to hike up that hill let alone just getting winded going for a walk. It’s disheartening and it leads to giving weight loss goals altogether.

I finally came to the point that addressing these problems of frustration and feelings of failure, not to mention the physical problems I was having, needed to be tackled head-on. I wanted help to break free from this cycle and find a path that worked. I finally a solution that really helped me address the root of the issue, I started to see real progress and get out of the pattern of regaining weight. It’s about finding a way to move past the feelings of failure and guilt and making sure that your efforts finally lead to lasting success. It’s totally understandable why getting frustrated and having a sense of failure is so common.  First, with so many different diets, workout plans, and weight loss methods out there, it’s easy to get overwhelmed. You might try one thing, see some results, and then hit a plateau, or maybe nothing seems to work at all. It’s frustrating when you’re putting in the effort but aren’t sure what’s going wrong or what to try next. This confusion can make it feel like you’re spinning your wheels, unsure of which direction to take. It’s a lot to navigate, and sometimes it feels like no matter what you do, you’re not getting closer to your goals.

Another challenge that I had, was that weight loss isn’t just about following a plan—it’s about changing habits and mindset, which can be incredibly tough. I finally realized this once I began using the tool of cutting-edge medications. Like me, You might find yourself stuck in old patterns, like emotional eating or skipping workouts, even when you’re trying to make better choices. Often the cravings can be so overwhelming at times, that before you know it, you have consumed something you vowed you wouldn’t touch, or find that you consumed not just one cookie, but 5 or 10, and sometimes, honestly half a bag of cookies (or your other favorite treat). I  found myself so focused on what not to eat, and focused on the weight I would inevitably gain if I “strayed off of the weight loss path”.   I also had my mind consumed with what I could eat and what I couldn’t eat and the ever-changing adaptation i needed to make for everyday food choices became so overwhelming.  It is so frustrating to follow a program faithfully, losing only a few pounds and then the moment you veer off or stray from your plan, the weight lost, comes rushing back.  Changing these habits takes time and patience, and it’s easy to get discouraged when progress is slow or inconsistent.

The sense of relief that came from solving my frustration and sense of failure was profound and multifaceted.   • I created a Success Journal and a gratitude journal: I had dedicated a journal where I recorded each small victory and identified things about myself that I was grateful for. I realized over time, that my body was amazing and I needed to not take it for granted any longer.
  • I set Mini-Milestones: Some of these were working on 10 lbs of weight loss at a time. I purchased a couple of items of clothing that were a size smaller and celebrated when I finally fit into them. I ended up buying a lot of sizes as I found myself achieving my goals.
  • I shared My Achievements: I shared my small wins with one family member that I knew would be supportive. Their encouragement and positive feedback enhanced my sense of accomplishment and reinforced my commitment to my goals.
